Nicole Yarling supports many young musicians in the Miami area through her outreach programs.

Her work has helped young players of all instruments prepare for college and careers as musicians.

Nicole is an assistant professor at Florida Memorial University and a lecturer at the University of Miami. Her education includes a BA in Music from Baruch College, a Master in Music Education at Columbia University, and private training in composition, arranging, voice, and violin.

She established a concert series called Jazz Encounters at radio station WDNA in Miami. As a result of the series, she created the Jazz Education Community Coalition, where she mentors young musicians interested in studying Jazz. In 2018, Yarling received a $10,000 Knights Arts Champion award for her work with the JECC.  In Ft. Lauderdale, Yarling serves as Educational Director and host of a monthly jazz jam for young musicians, First Friday Jam, sponsored by the Gold Coast Jazz Society, going into its eleventh year. The Jazz Journalists of America acknowledged her efforts when she received the Jazz Hero Award 2015. In 2016, Yarling was inducted into the South Florida Jazz Hall of Fame.

Nicole taught at our annual Creative Strings Workshop and Festival for several years. She sometimes appears as a guest teacher for our online string workshops.
